Growing Together
About Kalyx
Kalyx Australia is a leader in agricultural research and field trials, working with growers and industry to test and refine new technologies. As the sector evolves, so does the need for skilled, passionate professionals to drive innovation.
To support recruitment efforts, Kalyx wanted a series of videos that authentically showcase the workplace, the opportunities available, and the people who make it all happen. The goal was to engage recent graduates and professionals considering a career in agronomy by offering a genuine, behind-the-scenes look at life at Kalyx.
Why digital yarn Got Involved
Kalyx didn’t just need recruitment videos - they needed stories. Stories that would resonate with potential candidates, highlighting the unique blend of science, fieldwork, and collaboration that makes agronomy such a dynamic career path.
Over four days in Young, NSW, we captured footage that brings these stories to life, creating a series of engaging, high-quality videos designed for multiple platforms.
Approach
The shoot was designed to feel authentic, personal, and immersive. We wanted to show what working at Kalyx actually looks like; early starts, hands-on work in the field, and the team.
We captured
Open landscapes, drone shots, and sunrise scenes to highlight the appeal of the work environment.
Relaxed, real interviews that capture the passion and personality of the team.
Dynamic footage to enable multiple edits in post to maximise reach, including full-length videos, social media cutdowns, and alternative versions for different platforms.

Challenges
A week-long interstate shoot always presents challenges, and this one was no exception. From unpredictable weather to last-minute gear improvisations, flexibility was key.
Interviews were rescheduled multiple times due to sun, rain, and high winds, requiring on-the-spot adjustments.
As a small but agile team, I relied on collaboration from Kalyx staff, particularly Charlotte Tomkins, who helped keep everything running smoothly.
Backup batteries, extra storage, and contingency plans were essential when working in remote locations.
Output
The final delivery included five core videos. Featured below is Nell’s Story.
With 12 final edits (including full-length and social versions), Kalyx now has a versatile set of recruitment assets to attract new talent.
Nell’s Story
A personal look at Nell’s journey into agronomy, this video highlights her love for science, the outdoors, and hands-on research.
She shares how Kalyx gave her the skills, independence, and team support to grow in the industry.
Shot across open fields and research sites, the video blends candid interviews, fieldwork action, and warm, natural visuals to keep things authentic and engaging.
Impact
These videos give prospective employees a realistic and engaging insight into working at Kalyx, highlighting not just the technical aspects of agronomy, but also the strong team culture and opportunities for growth.
This project reinforced the importance of capturing authentic workplace culture on camera, and provided a valuable learning experience in adapting to field conditions, collaborating with a larger team, and ensuring every story is told in an authentic way.
